The Centre for Biomedical Law has fostered research in the sphere of health law. Significant work has been done in the area of patients' rights, legal protection of the mentally ill and the elderly, the rights of the embryo and foetus, the legal implications of knowledge of the genome, the influence of the European Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine in Portuguese law, and the protection of personal data.
